It was the first comprehensive scientific dictionary in English since John Harris's Lexicon Technicum of 1704 to 1710, and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography describes it as revealing \"a deep and extensive knowledge of British and continental works\" that is \"still used by historians as a valuable source,\" with its engineering entries considered particularly strong.
