Formerly known as the Codex Wormianus after its seventeenth-century owner, the antiquarian Ole Worm, the manuscript passed into the Arnamagnæan Collection and remains one of the principal surviving monuments of runic writing. This 1877 facsimile, issued by the Commission for the Arnamagnæan Bequest, was for many decades the standard means by which scholars studied the manuscript's text and letterforms without consulting the original. The copy's provenance adds real interest: it was owned by Ralph W. V. Elliott (1921–2010), the Anglo-Saxonist and runologist whose Runes: An Introduction (1959) remains a standard work in the field, a fitting association for a facsimile of one of runic writing's key surviving texts. The earlier bookplate of Sir John Eliot, Baronet, appears to be applied at some stage from another book.

Boards and gilt bright, bindingt square and sound.
