A vintage hardcover edition of Saturdee by Norman Lindsay, published by Ure Smith, Sydney. An early post-war hardcover reissue of Lindsay’s 1934 novel, and increasingly scarce in the original illustrated dust jacket. A good, solid copy in the original boards, the binding firm and sound, with clean pages showing light, even toning and no loose leaves.

In a complete dust jacket, protected in a removable sleeve, showing noticeable age-related wear including edge chipping, creasing, rubbing, staining to the rear panel, and internal tape reinforcement, though remaining visually striking and strong on the shelf.

Widely regarded as Lindsay’s most accomplished novel, Saturdee is a celebrated portrayal of Australian boyhood set in the fictional town of Redheap, drawing closely on the author’s own experiences in regional Victoria. Unsparing and psychologically realistic, the novel offers a darker, more introspective counterpoint to romanticised coming-of-age tales, and is often cited as Lindsay’s literary masterpiece — the work that most fully demonstrates his depth beyond his reputation as an illustrator.
